Hi-

I just got a hold of the R8 ROM cards and i'm having trouble loading the sounds off of a card. Do i have to edit the sounds of a bank and pick the sounds i want off of the card? Or can i load all of them at once?

Also... i have this .wav file of a beat made with a R8.. i would really like to remake this beat on my R8 but it's not coming out right. I've used step writing and it's not sounding good If anyone has good experience with making beats.. i'd like to send you the .wav so you can listen to it and see if you can remake it.

Thanks... please reply soon!

Sal-

I see you have the rom cards I need power drums or a Bass sound on my R8. as a reply to your answer you may need a program called cakewalk to convert that WAV file over to MIDI to be played on the R8. If you can help me I appreciate it I need some Bass for my R8.

Cakewalk is a sequencer... There is no such program to convert a wav file to midi! Send me the wav (doubek@eng.utah.edu)... I'd like to hear it, perhaps I can make some headway on it. I run an R8M with the power drums, dance drums, and ethnic percussion cards. I've been using it for sequencing and recording for 7 years now so maybe I can pick out what they are using (hopefully not from a card I don't have).

On loading sounds.... You have access to all the sounds available at any given time. When you plug a cartridge in in makes all the sounds available. There are, as I remember, 26 sounds on each add on cartridge. Move your cursor over to the "I" (for internal) before the sound number on the screen and hit up or down to access each cartridge. These sounds can then be saved into your custom patches so you can create mixes and matches of your favorite sounds. BTW, each cartridge also adds a demo song to the ROM play menu so you can hear a cheesy version of that cards capabilities.

Just wondering, where did you get these... I wouldn't mind finding a couple different ones myself that I don't have.

Ahhh...funky, funkman. Sounds like some worldbeat or Abdul Kalib and the Koto Soto. Definite hint of the ethnic percussion ROM card, but I'll have to get a little time to pick it apart. Right off the bat I can tell it is a least 5 or 6 drums layered. I hear a hihat (could be any R8 hat), a clave and woodblock, and a bongo or similar vein unit (mute pandera maybe). I know these sounds are on either the ethnic percussion card or in the internal sounds, all the other cards for the thing are jazz drums, clean drums, power drums, dance drums and the like and don't sound like this stuff. Check the drums at the front of the ethnic perc card for the bongo type thing on top.
