This is for a PA1X board.
For the life of me I can't figure out how to change a voice or a STS in a style and then save that change. I have spent two full days matching up styles with my gig sets but I don't know how to save the changes I made to various styles. Can anyone direct me to good info?

I've had my 800 for 2 days, but I think this works for you too:

1. Select the style until it pops up to its own screen.
2. Exit out of there.
3. Look at your UP1, etc choices.

If you want to change UP1:

1. Select the default UP1
2. Select any other sound from the board - it should now replace the default.
3. Exit out of there
4. Select the drop down window and select "save the existing style"

That will change the style permanently. You cannot rename the style.

The OTS works the same way, but you have to rename the instrument and replace it to the default OTS - very simple too.

If you want to save that style, associated with a song:

1. Select the newly saved style
2. Go to songbook
3. Go to the Edit 1 page and save changes as a new song
4. Go to the Edit 2 page and save changes there also.
5. This should now ask you to replace the exiting? Yes
6. Now transfer it into your custom list.

Simple really once you get it down.

In order to make saves & edits in the songbook entries you have to click songbook> when it opens touch the upper right hand corner for the drop down menu>
you will see a few choices....put a check mark on allow songbook edit....exit and this will allow you to save you info anyway you want.

1) Press the Media Button and go to Preferences. Remove the check mark from "Factory Style And Pad Protect".

2) Select the style and STS you want to modify and make the changes as you would do when playing live.

3) From the menu in the upper right corner choose "Write Single Touch Setting". You can choose which STS to overwrite and even give at name.

A that all there is to it.

It is very easy to build a personal songbook fast:

1) Select the style you want to use. Set up the four STS's if you can't use the default ones. Do any necessary modifications to tempo, transpose, volume, eq, balance, effects etc just as you would be doing it live.

2) Go to Book Edit Page 1. Fill out the fields (Genre, Artist, Key etc.) Make sure that you check marks in the following boxes:
Write Current Resource
Write STS
All Current Style STS

3) If necessary make further changes on Book Edit Page 2. Give the song an unique "Song Selection Number" (301, 302, 303,...).

4) Press Write

Do 1) to 4) for a number of styles. Now you can put these styles into a custom song book that only shows your own styles:

5) Make sure that "Enable Book Edit" is activated from the menu in the upper right corner.

6) Go to List Edit and press New List.

7) Go to the main Book page and press Add To List for you own entries.

8) Finally go back to the List Edit page and save the list.

You can choose which list that is shown on the Custom List page. You can continue adding more entries to your custom list by repeating 1-8 above, just do the following instead of 6)

6) Select your own list on the Custom list page.

This might seem complicated at first but is actually quite logical when you have done it a few times. And the custom list feature also allow you to have the same song in several lists, i.e. Sleigh Ride could be both in "My Favorite Songs" and in "Christmas Songs".

Make sure that you check out page 297 in the manual. It contains a lot of shortcuts that will really help you in a live setting.

It is also important that you understand how "locks" works to get transpose etc. to work like you want it. Go to Global/General Controls/Locks. If an item is locked it will not change when you select a new songbook entry, style or performance. It will always retain the value of performance 1 (Grand Piano eXp). If you want another locked value just modify performance 1 and overwrite it. If you don't want the value to be locked you should open the lock in Global/General Controls/Locks and then do a Write Globals from the menu in the upper right corner.

Let me know if you run into problems.
And good luck

Wow! thanks DNJ and Zuki- this is exactly what I have been looking for. With this iformation I should be on my way - if anything I can follow directions - married for 45 years!!

I play the 30's, 40's and 50's swing music and so far the styles have been ok except for some of the STS voices and sometimes the style voices so I am looking forward to "tweaking" them to see the results.
