Wow! I have finally started to work out the accomp matches for my gig books - I want to save some performances I found to the songbook - is that possible?

One other thing - I upgraded my OS to V3.01 and reloaded the music resouces file which seemed to change everything.

Makes me think the previous owner deleted a lot of stuff - sure glad I did that because I really like this keyboard and it's sound.
Excited and have lots of work to do today.

Sorry for the stupid question, but what board do you have?

You should always do a factory reset when aquiring a used KB & start from scratch.

Sorry - I have the PA1X - got excited about the possibilities here. I almost got rid of this keyboard before I discovered a lot of it neatest features. I just read in the manual that I can save a performance with a new name but it sure would be neat if I could save that performance in a custum songbook.

Hi Hammer,

If it's like the PA800, you can certainly save a new performance (song?) in a custom songbook (name the list whatever). Not sure if the songbook is the same.

If it is, you just have to make your changes and then start with the edit 1 page. It will walk you through the parameters. Then go to edit 2 page to save it to a custom location.

MAKE SURE THE ENABLE EDIT IS MARKED UNDER THE DROPDOWN MENU or else you'll be scratching your heads for hours like I did

Next, hit songbook and you'll see your new title there.

Hightlight it and hit 'send to list'

Then go back to your edit list page and hightlight that song and hit 'save'

Now you must make sure the custom list is updated by saving the changes, in effect a revised custom list.

When I wanted to edit that song, I just went back to edit 1 & 2 screens and named the song version 2, etc. That way you can erase the previous versions.

I believe every song you do that way will remain in your master songbook (annoying to me), but you can always redo the music resources and I believe your custom list will still be there (but not 100% certain).

It is a bit strange, but easy once you figure it out. In fact, I liked it a lot.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Hammer, I not a Korg expert and I may be missing something, but why don't you just save everything to the Songbook? I could be off base and there may be a better way but that's what I do.

Stephen and Zuki,
First thanks - really helps. I want to save my setups to the songbook and have been able to do that with styles - really very easy to do. I am now going through every one of the performances and have found a lot I can use - was trying to save them also to the songbook but could never make it happen - it always asked me to save it in a performance location. I will try Zuki's approach and see what happens.

Thanks again

Ok, I must be missing something - I picked out a performance and saved it to the Songbook but option to add it to a custom list is not available for it. I wonder if performances can't be saved to a custom list. Anyone out there please jump in here if you know better.

Thanks,
Hammer

hammer.....

It is very easy to build a personal songbook fast:

1) Select the style you want to use. Set up the four STS's if you can't use the default ones. Do any necessary modifications to tempo, transpose, volume, eq, balance, effects etc just as you would be doing it live.

2) Go to Book Edit Page 1. Fill out the fields (Genre, Artist, Key etc.) Make sure that you check marks in the following boxes:
Write Current Resource
Write STS
All Current Style STS

3) If necessary make further changes on Book Edit Page 2. Give the song an unique "Song Selection Number" (301, 302, 303,...).

4) Press Write

Do 1) to 4) for a number of styles. Now you can put these styles into a custom song book that only shows your own styles:

5) Make sure that "Enable Book Edit" is activated from the menu in the upper right corner.

6) Go to List Edit and press New List.

7) Go to the main Book page and press Add To List for you own entries.

8) Finally go back to the List Edit page and save the list.

You can choose which list that is shown on the Custom List page. You can continue adding more entries to your custom list by repeating 1-8 above, just do the following instead of 6)

6) Select your own list on the Custom list page.

This might seem complicated at first but is actually quite logical when you have done it a few times. And the custom list feature also allow you to have the same song in several lists, i.e. Sleigh Ride could be both in "Donny's Songs" and in "Christmas Songs".

Unfortunately I have no experience with the vocalizer, since I use the audio inputs for my GEM RP-X sound module - soon to be replaced with a SonicCell

Make sure that you check out page 297 in the manual. It contains a lot of shortcuts that will really help you in a live setting.

It is also important that you understand how "locks" works to get transpose etc. to work like you want it. Go to Global/General Controls/Locks. If an item is locked it will not change when you select a new songbook entry, style or performance. It will always retain the value of performance 1 (Grand Piano eXp). If you want another locked value just modify performance 1 and overwrite it. If you don't want the value to be locked you should open the lock in Global/General Controls/Locks and then do a Write Globals from the menu in the upper right corner.

Hi Donny,

Thanks for the info - very helpful. I am trying to put performances into the songbook - works just great - what seems to be a problem is getting the performance from the songbook into a custom list - that is where I am totally lost.

Well, I just tried again - it is very easy to save the performance to the songbook - but again the option add to list is not functional for the song. Sort of looks like the performance can't be saved to a custom list. I need to read the manual and find out how to save to and use the performance banks. More later.

Thanks again to everyone who helps out here. I realize everyone is busy and I am grateful for any help I can get. I wanted to play a gig with the new keyboard on
Friday - might not make it as things are going now.

Hi Hammer

You have to select Enable List Edit from the top right hand corner menu in Songbook. Then you can add to custom list.

Hi Hammer,
are you actually changing your mind about selling??

The Korgs can be customized to suit, sounds like the previous owner & your own needs are different.

Good to hear it may actually work out for you.

best wishes

Yes, I am having serious second thoughts about selling. Apparantly there were sounds or sytles etc missing that after reloading OS V.3.01 and the related files are present and working great. I actually am finding dozens of useful styles for my needs. Still not much in the Country catagory - but I can work around that. I think I will really like being able to customize my keyboard and have everything the way I like it to be with no surprises when pushing buttons.

Sort of makes me wonder if others here who have tried keyboards have had the same experience but never discovered it before selling or trading.

Hi Hammer,
I remember having a quick look at a secondhand korg a couple of years ago, while I was waiting to be served.
I remember looking thru the styles & thought what an odd bunch. An unusually large amount of ethnic styles. Obviously the owner had swapped his user styles for the existing.
Didn't dawn on me at the time that an onboard style could actually be overwritten.

Might be a warning for store owners to make sure that secondhand korgs have the latest korg operating & resources files loaded.

Wow, I just realized from reading this thread, you can actually REPLACE THE ONBOARD STYLES with custom ones. That is a HUGE feature that I'm going to have to try.

If you delete styles and setup your keyboard with only those styles needed for your gigs, then do a backup of the hard drive - what happens on the restore? Does the OS look for all the factory stuff or only what is in the current backup? Also, would the same apply to the performances? I can see where everything on the keyboard would be customized for our playing styles and needs. Pretty neat stuff.

Hi Al,
fully customizable ( if there is such a word haahaa).
I wouldn't rush into replacing styles straight away as there are a heap of empty slots available for user styles.
In the long term though, you can set up the keyboard for your own needs.
Default on the keyboard, locks the user styles in so that you don't accidently overwrite them, the lock can be taken off so that you can.
One of the most important things to learn is how to save & load your user data to usb stick &/or your PC.
The loading & saving is different on the korgs to what it is on the Yamaha's.
Check out the Multimedia section of your manual. If you've got your user data saved correctly, then you won't have hassles should you accidently delete important user files.

best wishes
