No Donny, not getting heavier ones, in fact the ones I got are lighter. I just got the EVsa100 none powered speakers. They are 12" speakers and so far they sound the best with my 3K.
These speakers are really light, Bought them used from Craigslist. I wanted something with a little more bottom, but didn't want 15 inchers. I'm driving them with a Peavey 130 watt amp which is also light. Everything is "light". I'm might go for a more powerful amp....I'll see how this works out. So far it's working.

The non-powered speakers are lighter, I would say is the main pro, although you'd need an extra piece of equipment, that being a PA head.

The con on the powered speakers is that many weigh more, BUT, if one speaker goes, you can continuew a gig with one speaker, whereas if the PA head blows you have no speakers working and won't be able to continue the gig, unless you bring a backup meaning more stuff to haul and fool with.

I like and use the powerd JBL Eon 10 G2's. They are only 23 lbs apiece and are ideal for my particular uses.

Best

Two more cons of powered speakers I have experienced:

1. each one needs to have a power supply to it. This may seem a small point, but if you use a power mixer or amp you usually have it close to the keyboard so as to be able to control the sound during the gig, so it's easy to run a power supply. If the speakers are not close behind you, you may well have a problem with getting the power to the speaker.

2. It's hard to make any adjustments to the speaker setup during the gig. You are relying on the EQ in the keyboard alone.

Just things to think about, imho.

Whenever I hear that someone has gotten a set of EV SX100-300 I smile because IMHO they are the best non-powered speakers out there. They have a much better response and a livelier sound than JBLs. Good luck.
