Hey Ken,
There are so many variables in mic settings. Try this:
start with the default harmony setting ( I use that 90% of the time)
Next, determine if your mic sounds different through the PA, or if it sounds the same as the internal speakers (doubtfull on that). You want to adjust EQ with teh system you intend to perform with. I came up with a blend that sounds great with the internal plus the Bose L1, but your needs may differ.
You have to make sure that you have a smooth tone in your "problem" range. Most mics have a "sweet spot", and some have a "rough spot"......tune the EQ to smooth out any rough edges.
Don't use compressors unless you LOVE the sound they give you. I hate them because they squash the dynamics too much. Yamaha arrangers need them to offset the poor gain structure, and make an acceptable tone.
(sorry Yammy guys ... just the way I see it)
If your voice is in the range I expect, you'll probably like to cut the mids a bit as well as the lows, but mic placement will affect that decision greatly. Experiment, and close your eyes when you adjust the dials. Use your ears and not the settings. Good luck !
