A lady called and said she wanted a DJ for her 50th wedding anniversary. I was quick to tell her I was not a DJ. She said, "Yes you are. I have seen you several times."

I almost went into the sermon about the difference between DJ and LIVE music. Then it hit me. I asked her if she knew what the letters D and J were short for. She didn't have a clue.

After a polite explanation she admitted she thought everyone that played music was referred to as a DJ.

After the basic questions about the ages expected to be in attendance and musical tastes, I took the job. But, I am wondering how many other jobs I have turned down because prospects said they wanted a DJ.

What really gets my goat is when you arrive and the host introduces you as the DJ that will be providing the evening's entertainment, then a small number of idiots come up to where you are performing, see you singing into the mic, watch your hands tickle the keys, then strike up a stupid conversation and begin asking questions in the middle of a song. Even when you completely ignore them they'll continue asking "Do you have my favorite song in that machine? Where do you keep the tapes? Can I get my CDs out of the car so you can play them too?" AGHHHHHHHHH!

get over it ....we have been lumped into the DJ category due to the lacking of LIVE music in today's society.....too late now to get upset.....we're doomed.....do what you do.....play & enjoy it.....make your money....smile & take the check home....enjoy your life....this scenario will only get worse no matter what you think you are they will assume different.

Its just the way it is....but Im happy they have destroyed it because its peaking and people are tired of loud booming bass at parties and are starting to return to other avenues of live entertainment for their venues.......the wheel is turning & it will return again you just wait & see.

Around here, the OMB's who are lumped with the DJ's aren't much different than DJ's.

If you're a real live performer/musician/entertainer this is a non-issue, at least in Lexington.
