Hi! I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I have just installed Cakewalk Sonar and have hooked up the R8 to record as midi drums. I am having no trouble getting midi input (i.e., recording the drums into the sequencer), but the R8 will not playback the sequence !? My midi cables are fine, and the midi messages are coming out (I hooked up a keyboard, and the data is being played back). I even slaved the R8 to the keyboard to see if the midi input might be messed up, but I can play the R8 using the keyboard, so I don't think the 'midi in' is bad. I have gone over the receive settings over and over, and I don't think I am missing anything, but any help you might provide would be greatly appreciated, or if you can direct me to someone who could help.
Please email responses to motobat@tiusa.net
Thanks

You've probably already done this... but check your MIDI Note assignments for each voice. I recently sold my R8, but it was absolutely NOTORIOUS for dumping the MIDI Note Assignments data everytime I blew a new set of patterns into it's memory. For some reason, it interepreted an upload as "reset all notes to their default MIDI assignments", which meant that even though the pattern/song played fine from the R8 itself, by the time I THOUGHT I had sequenced the data and tried to play it back... no joy.

Roland drum machines suck - and they make the best drum machines in the world! I still believe the R8 is the best-sounding drumbo on the planet, but I just couldn't take the programming-intensive yuk that came along with it. I've gone back to my TR-707 - at least I could program it and rely on it to work the same every time!

Just to exclude this possibility; did you load the instrument patch for R 8 ? or did you load R 8M ?...!
