Yes,
you can play a midi file in the keyboard, plug in a mic and record both to a USB flash drive.

Can you punch in and out on different sections, or does it ALWAYS have to be one take all the way through?

You can load in a midi file,(or record one in the SONG CREATOR), then you can go to the USB recorder, press RECORD, press PLAY on the SONG recorder and your MIDI is recorded as audio on a flashdrive.

You can also plug in a microphone, or another keyboard, and whilst the midi is being recorded, you can add a vocal or another instrument part to the audio.

Some people record background vocals along with the midi...then they can sing along with the resulting audio and have more complex harmonies(like do-wops) not possible with using the harmonizer alone.

It is easier to do than explain...you can find the S900 manual on line if you wish to explore further.

I was getting confused between the Sequencer recorder & the USB recorder. This seems like a very useful feature for so many things. I am leaning toward the upgrade to the S900 & use my 3k as backup for now. I have been reading the S900 manual & I've read all your posts on this unit which have swayed me in the S900 direction.

That's cool, John...it is a terrific keyboard...I find the Audio to USB very handy for making CDs...the audio quality is superb.

And...there are those wicked SA voices.

I love my 3k & it sounds very good....but after playing a S900 in the store it just seems to have a crisper higher quality sound overall, style/sound wise. And as you say those SA sounds really are unbelievable.
I wonder how they will ever top this?

Yes, John, I love my 3k as well...still have it.

But, as soon as I played the SA Sax and the SA Concert Guitar, I was hooked.

I would have purchased it for those two sounds alone...they add a new dimension to expressivity.

There is no doubt the Tyros3 will raise the bar...how much it does remains a mystery until the fall.

Also I assume as history shows after T3 there should be an S series upgrade also wouldnt you think?
