Has anyone heard or does anyone own the Bose Companion 3 series Home Computer System? Companion 3 What I heard amazes me and the price at Sam's Club is just $199. The Companion 2 sounded good too. Would these work well for any of you mini PA people out there?

I have Bose 161 left and right working with the Yamaha Sub woofer on my Tyros 2 and they do a pretty good job.

I can vouch for the Logitech z2300 PC system, or even the z4, having tried both. I use the z2300 with my Pa2X at home (needed something small and good looking) and the z4 for my PC.

Haven't seen any reviews on the Bose, though it looks like a great compact system. I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

Pros: Spacious, uncolored sound. Stylish good looks. Touch-sensitive control puck.


Cons: Won't shake the floor. Sounds thin with some source material.

Cass I saw them at Sam's too. I was impressed with them I thought I'd get a pair for my desktop computer and thought about the possibilty of using them as a small PA. Later I was in Best Buy and saw what is apparently the new generation of that system, very nice and also better sounding too. Doubt I'll buy a pair at this point, but I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who maybe using them as a small PA.

Steve, I've seen the other version of the Companion 3 at other sites; I think it's just cosmetics. The Companion 5 might really kick, but are $150 more. I originally looked at the Companion 2 for my laptop, but was impressed with the sound and size of the 3.

I too would like to hear other opinions of these systems, especially if you are using it with a keyboard setup.

I tutored a Technics guy that converted to Yamaha. He got the original Companion 3 for his studio and I was impressed with the overall sound and the convenience of the puck. It would certainly do the job at any of the NH's I play.

A couple of things I did not care for: The thin, delicate wiring (which I believe was hardwired into one of the sats) and no stand or cradle for the sats. All the connections were RCA plugs except for one mini plug. So adapters are necessary coming out of the keyboard. Any EQ adjustments have to be made in the keyboard.

My student/friend is a retired machinist and retro-fitted his sats and his X-stand so the sats would screw into place with a wing nut. It would be a bit of a hassle to use on a job...but other than that, they sounded great.
