Hello friends,

I am looking to buy a synth/keyboard generally for jamming. My style is that of Phish, MMW, Herbie Hancock, stevie wonder, Jeff Beck, ELP, etc with a live band. I am wanting funky basses, clav sounds, power leads, a Hammond B3 organ sound, and all the trippy pink floyd type sound effects where sliders and/or dials are required.
since i will be gigging with it (mostly improv!), it needs to be able to be played real time with great versatility (switching between sounds fast - such as with a bank, and sliders/dials)

I am currently looking to buy a Roland Juno 106 because of its supposed EASY programmability (this will be my first synth remember) and great variety of sounds and that it is analog and vintage.

With all of this in mind, can anyone suggest the perfect or near close synth for me?

Summary: keys for live jamming funky jazzy and trippy music much like the styles of Herbie Hancock, stevie wonder, ELP, and jeff beck for $300. Sliders, Dials, easy programmability (with memory banks?). Great bass, pads, organ, clav, classic piano, and power leads ranging from cheezy 80's to tight techno progressive leads.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and comments on my current decision on the Juno 106. Is it not at all what I am wanting? What do I want? I am clueless!

(For a little more definition, here is me on my Fender Rhodes playing a style similar to what I am talking about. I just met the fiddle player and we are completely improving: http://www.joepeg.com/cd ) Imagine a funky bass and a power synth lead on top. What synth can do this for me? (throw in some trippy dial/slider sounds for effect as well)

Thanx!

Look elsewhere..
The 106 is a good synth, but I don't think it's quite what your looking for.

1) The Keyboard is not velocity sensative
2) It is only 6 note polyphonic.

The 106 tends to be used for bass sounds, and pads. It's a true synth in the sense of the word, thanks to it's slider controls.
You may well get a passable organ patch out of it, but you can forget about piano!
