I'm new to synths, but am planning to buy an XV88. I know that there is not a built-in sequencer. Would it be possible to use an external sequencer? Would that connect to the XV88 thru the midi? What kind of sequencers would you recommend? Also, do you know if the internal effects include a vocoder?

The XV-88 will function with an external sequencer through MIDI interface or with a computer (PC) through a serial port.

I have used several programs on my PC to record and play back sequences and store system exclusive's while using the XV-88 as my primary controller.

Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.3 is my favorite sequencing software. Mostly because I had to pick something a few years ago when I got into midi and building a DAW,and I chose Cakewalk and now I have grown accustom to the software.

I bought an XV-88 last summer and think it is a fine instrument.

Yes you can use an external sequencer with the XV........ You might want to consider a hardware sequencer (Roland MC series, Yamaha QY {hope that's right}etc, etc) this way you don't have to have the XV by the computer to sequence stuff......

As far as I know there is no "vocoder" effect on the XV...... Are you trying to sing into a mic and add your singing to an instrument (synth lead maybe??) ??????? the XV does not have a mic input (Yamaha S-80 does, if you care... still don't know if it has a vocoder though)
