I am a music technology technician working in a college in England, recently a student loaned me a Roland M-VS1.
As a qualified sound designer I find it a very frustrating module due to the lack of editing parameters on the front panel, it's sounds great but I don't do presets.
My aim is to find a way to initialise the on board waveforms to a neutral state (ie flat envelopes, filters, lfos etc) so I can make multisamples of them.
There are no dedicated Mac editors that I can find on the net and I have had only partial success with using Soundiver, I don't have a manual (I've looked online for one with no success) so I am a bit confused about how to isolate the two playback modes (patch and performance).
I am presuming from what I have learnt from my Soundiver experience that performance mode is what the unit needs to be in for sysex editing (I could be wrong) but when in this mode Soundiver will trigger sounds from patch mode as well, I managed to isolate performance mode by assigning it to a different midi channel to patch mode (I think, although without a manual I could only presume this is what I had done) but I could only get this to work once and then the unit stopped responding to my sequencer (Cubase) there are no save features that I could find and any changes I made on the front panel would result in my Soundiver edits being lost.
I am also considering using raw sysex from within Cubase to achieve my aims, I have little experience with doing this as all the gear I own either have dedicated editors or resond to MIDI CC commands.
I'm sure I could manage it providing the sysex codes required were not to complicated (I hear that Roland's codes aren't too tricky) but I obviously don't have a sysex chart for the M-VS1 and without one I wouldn't want to attempt it (again my online searches have proved fruitless).
Basically what I need is either a manual, a sysex chart detailing what codes the unit responds to and what parameters are affected by them or clear instructions on how to set the unit up properly for sysex editing in Soundiver.
Hope somebody can help.
