I've owned an MC 505 for about a year now. To be quite honest I believe it to be a reliable piece of hardware. The format for the rhythm kinda sucks in that you are only able to assign the bass kick and snares, etc. to their appropriate locations on the board. The initial sounds are useful but not what I was looking for. At first, I was at dismay. THERE ARE WAYS OF GETTING AROUND THESE MINOR PROBLEMS HOWEVER. For instance, say you want to program, hypothetically, three drums loops overlapping each other. By going into the rhythm edit menu, you can assign one drum loop into the bass kick loop. You can then assign another loop into the snare loop and so on. This has been helpful to me. Creating sounds on this ****er is awesome though. Granted, the initial sound patches aren't too bad but I've been able to create most of the sounds that I have been listening to and wanted to use on other music albums. Every possibility is there from the filter and pitch envelopes to the layering of LFOs. Brilliant stuff. (If anyone wants to discuss creating sound with me, I would be more then happy to share what I have learned) I have only a few minor gripes with the 505. One, you can't have more than one EFX running on it. That is really difficult to get around but I guess that's how most synth modules are like. Two, there is no keyboard and that makes it VERY difficult to program velocity changes. I'm not able to purchase a dummy board to hook up with it due to lack of money. I've also found the play quantitize to be quite useless. Anyway, I hope that I can exchange information with fellow MC 505ers with this posting. I don't really think I'm using this baby to its fullest potential and would like some input. Cool, thanks all.
