I controll an Emax II with a Roland AX-7. It's limited because they speak different midi languages. But I'm clueless as to what other sampler/sequencers can store full synth samples that I can easily switch and access live. I need something that will let me creat my own sampled synths - I like to sample Moogs and then create banks. Any suggestions?

MIDI is a standard... It's used to communcate data between devices so they should be speaking the same language.
Only system exclusive allows MIDI to speak a different language as it allows MIDI to chat to a certain device and no others, mostly for when you need to edit patches within a synth for example.

I'm not sure what a Roland AX-7 is, however the Emax II is sampler, so in theroy you could sample any synth you like. You would then have edit the Emax to give you the 'patch' your after. There a plently of sample CD's out there.
If your after a new selection of sounds perhaps a rack mounted synth module would be in order?

The funny thing is, the Emax II and the Roland AX-7 actually DO speak two different midi languages - the languages even have names - though I don't remember what they're called. The reason why they are different is because the Emax II was created in 1982. Newer midi controllers correspond to a different set of codes. So the only way I can access my samples from the Emax is by arranging my sounds in order and switching them by foot switch.

The AX-7 is a silly "Keytar". It has tons of buttons for switching and a kooky D-Beam, a ribbon controller and a whammy bar thingee. It's a pretty nerdy instrument, but it's good for me.

Anyways, what would you recommend as a module that I can create and store synth sounds in? Something that samples and sequences? A computer program, a rack mounter module? What's out there that you like?

Oh one of those posey things..
It's a remote keyboard controller - no in built sounds, just sends MIDI.
I looks like a modern day AX1..

The keyboard sends program change messages (to select patches), MIDI note data (odvously), modulation, and pitchbend.
All of these messages should be understood by the Emax II as this is part of the MIDI standard.
Even my really old Akai AX73 can do all this.
MIDI was 'born' in around 1982, and you it hasn't really changes that much.
Somehow they keep adding bits to it, but the fundimentals remain the same.
I would really like to know what this 'other' language is...

As to what device is around that gives you samples, synths, and sequencing?
Take your pick, there's dozens of 'workstations' out there from the likes of Yamaha Motif range, Roland's Fantoms, and not forgeting the Korg Triton.
It largley depends on the size of your pocket.
If money is an issue a rack-mount will give you the features, but without the keys.
You could also look for the something older, most of my kit is 'secondhand' (JV-2080 was the last major MIDI addition)
