Does anyone use a small spot monitor on a microphone stand? I am thinking of the powered Galaxy Hot Spot or the Mackie SRM150. Any ideas or suggestions?

I've used a Hot Spot (unpowered) on a mike stand for years. I also use the little powered Roland CM-30 on a stand.

Works for me!

Dont let the power rating of only 30watts on the Roland CM-30 scare you away! For It's size and price ($175) it really sounds great. I've had customers compare the Mackie to the Roland and like the Roland better, even though the Mackie is rated at 150 Watts! and sells for much more.

I have a pair of the Mackie SRM150's.

Great little spot monitor, good connectivity. Not too much low end, but that's kind of the point...

Louder than you would expect. It hangs in great with full bore stage bands (and that's louder than you'll ever crank a CM-30!) and sits on a boom stand with the boom on top (CM-30 don't tuck away as well, IMO)...

30 watts vs. 150.... Hmmmm......

They'll both sound good up to a certain point (and maybe the Roland, with a bigger speaker, sounds fuller at lower volumes), but if you ever play with real drummers, etc., crank it to the max and see which one peters out first.

I extensively compared the CM-30 and the SRM150. I chose the SRM150. Both were good. The CM-30 had more range and two of them could serve as a small PA. However, I was looking for a good monitor to mount on my keyboard stand for me to hear while playing live with my T2. For that the SRM150 was a better choice in terms of tone and size/shape.
