I have what may seem like a foolish question. One of my objections to the PSR-3000 were the keys just felt SMALL to my fat little fingers. Certainly considerably smaller in terms of white key width and spacing between keys than my Roland G70.

Can anyone tell me if the key spacing and size on the Tyros 3 is the same as the PSR3000, or larger?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Bruce

Always hated the Yamaha keys, for both feel and size. I also think that the Roland keys are actually too long for my taste.
Go figure.
This Korg PA800 is just perfect for all my needs, and it keeps getting better. I love the way it handles my voice and backings.

I posted this question in the Yamaha PK Owners forum, and the consensus seemed to be that the Tyros 3 would have the same slightly narrower keys like the Tyros 2 and S900 have.

I had done some tests - measuring a lot of keyboards and pianos ... and only Yamaha's keyboards came in less in key width than most standard keyboards and pianos. I had even gone to some piano stores and measured lots of pianos! Then measured Wersi, Korg, and other keyboards.

I found that the 5 octave span of most keyboards and pianos out there is 33.5" (33-1/2 inches) while the Yamaha Tyros 2 and S900 were 32-1/2" for 5 octaves.
So, there is about a 1-inch difference over 5 octaves between Yamaha arranges and most other keyboards, organs and pianos.

Same keybed as T2 or MotifXS6 (you can probably find THAT locally, at least!).

Not piano sized or weighted, but WAY better than PSR's...

Did you upgrade to 1.60 yet? It really improves the vocal headroom!

Has anyone had trouble adjusting to the Yamaha Keyboard being slightly less key-width? When I play a Wersi or Allen organ, or piano alot, then go to a Tyros or S900, I don't notice it immediately, but I do find that I make a few more "hit two notes at once" (glancing a finger so that it hits an edge of a key next to the key I'm trying to play) ... so it doesn't bother me horribly, but I sure wish Yamaha's arrangers were using standard key width ...

I've never had the slightest problem adjusting to variations in key width even down to the Casio CZ101 "mini keys".

This includes a lot of time using an Ensoniq SD1 (which I think is "full size") at the same time as a couple of PSRs with the "a little smaller" keywidth.

I never knew there was a difference until some chubby-fingered guy pointed it out on the Zone. I won't mention his name, but his initials are U.D.. I wonder if he still has the same problem now that he is skinnier? Hmmm!

Cheers,

Gary
