As weird as this sounds, I am unable to find anyone who can explain to me how to program MP3s with lyrics ....Surely someone out there is able to tell me....

I have asked at other Forums only to get a response like "the manual says that Pa keyboards do support Lyrics contained in MP3 files"......Which doesn't explain anything...

Has anyone made or used an MP3 with lyrics that will show up on the screen when playing the MP3?

Ron

Ron, I'm not near my PA2xPro, but I can try to tell you from what I remember. Create or load your MP3 file into Songbook. Somewhere in the Songbook feature there is a setting to link lyrics. ( you will have had to load your lyrics via a .txt file) Once you link the MP3 with the lyrics you'll then be able to have your lyrics pop up when you choose the MP3 from Songbook. There is one caveat, unlike a .kar file that has lyrics embedded and advance automatically. You will have to advance the lyrics manually. If you have the Ec5 pedal I would program one of the pedals to advance the lyrics.

As I say I'm away from my keyboard this right now so, I may be a little off base with my instructions. If no one else adds to the thread, I'll be at the keyboard later this evening and will be able be more specific

Like Steve said, if the .kar file has lyrics, it automatically loads in with the midi file.

To access the lyrics from the .kar file:

Song mode
Access the .kar file
While in Songbook mode - select the lyrics tab on the bottom of the screen

To link lyrics to an mp3:

You must save lyrics to a word document, save as a text file and put it on a pen drive
In Songbook, page 2, simply hit the 'browse' feature, which will bring up the text files
Select the correct text file and save it (you don't have to do any more after that because it is linked forever (as long as you have the pen drive in)

I suspect that that wasn't what he was after.

He means the now adopted ID3 tag that allows lyrics to be embedded in an MP3. That also scroll in time with the music as in traditional Midi based Karaoke files.

Used to the domain of CDG files, but has now been included in the MP3 spec.

MP3 ID3 files work with most of the PC based mp3 players, (Winamp, Media Player et al), but I have not heard of read of any of the keyboard based players recognising them, well properly anyway.

AFAIK, the PA2 does NOT have the op sys code to properly read ID3 MP3's...It may be fixed/added in the new OS release.

You were correct in assuming that..

I cannot find it now, but I am sure that I have read somewhere, that the PA2X PRO can read MP3 ID3 files....

Can someone give me a definitive answer on this?

Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron,
FWIW, I have actually tried id3 MP3's on my old PA2x, and they did not work. The MP3 itself played okay, but no synchronised lyrics appeared. Tell the truth, NO lyrics appeared!!

Now it might have been an incorrectly programmed MP3, but in any case I went no further.

In the manual it says it reads MP3's with lyrics, but I don't place too much stock in the manual.

The manual also says it recognises GM2 sysex too, but it doesn't!!! (Big thread on this at the Korg forums)

So I did not pursue it any further. I was going to look at some software to convert an existing library of my own song mp3's (done using the motif rack), but since I couldn't get them to work on the PA, I went down a different path.
