I use Cakewalk, but I would think the procedure would be similar. There is a helpful document on Roland's site that solved a lot of problems for me. It's called "Using the XP-50 with an External Sequencer". I have an XP-60, but the menus are similar enough (i.e., between the XP-50 and XP-60), that I could figure out what to do. I set my XP-60 on Performance Preset A-12, "POP SET 1", which has each of the 16 parts set to a different MIDI channel. Then I use Cakewalk's track properties dialog to set the patch. Bank select method = Normal. I can select any of patches in any of the banks, including the expansion board I have installed. When I change the patch from Cakewalk, the part changes in the POP SET 1 preset (as shown by an asterisk by the name and by the name of the patch in the part changing as well). Hope this helps.

Bank change is a control change, just like modulation and damperpedal.
The Roland synths use CC 00 (Control Change nr. 00) for bank change.
The value is 80 and up, and depends on how many banks that you have.
Bank change is channel specific and must be sent a little before the actual program change.
Roland synths changes the sound when it recieves a program change, the bank change will not take effect untill it gets a program change.

Thanks for all your help!!
Rod, your right, the doc.is very good, and it solved my problem. If there is anyone else with the same problem then you will see there a chart with the exact midi bank select number you have to enter in the Cubase to get the bank change. From 10240 to 10759, (thats MSB x 128 +LSB)Who would of guesed that???
It would of been much easier if there was a list of patches which you could chose from instead of entering those long numbers. The "SoundDiver"(which came with the xp-30)might of helped, but, for some reason both the SounDiver and the Cubase cant work together, one of them always gets stuck.
suggestions???

Mat,
In Cakewalk, there are "instrument definition" files that allow you to make bank selections and program changes from drop-down list boxes. The patch names are displayed in the list boxes with the identical names as on the XP-xx display. I would think there would be something similar for Cubase, but I don't know.

I have just found out that in Cubase you can use the "Studio Module" to chose patches. The only problem is that there is no driver for the XP-30.It is possible to make one with the "DMaker" but its kinda difficult...
