I'd like to record the audio (not MIDI) from the XP-50 through the unbalanced analog input (Line In) of my Ensoniq Soundscape soundcard to digital audio tracks in Cakewalk. I asked Roland about what kind of level goes out from the XP-50's L/R channel outputs and they said it's -6 dB (which seems strange because the usual levels I know are -10 dB for consumer and +4 dB for professional line level). Considering this, would I get the best sound quality by going direct, or should I use a D.I. or a transformer or a mic preamp in the path? What about adding a compressor or limiter to the chain? And what's the deal on this BBE Sonic Maximizer thing--can I use that, too? What do you guys do for this kind of interconnection?
Thanks to all responding.
