Hello,

I am considering an instrument that has excellent piano sound. I was told that JV1010 has an excellent stereo piano sound; however, it seems to me that I need to buy a piano expansion for it.

I have also tried Yamaha P80 and it sounded very good.

I got recently a catalogue From Roland introducing the XV. From the comments here and there, I get the impression that XV has a better sounding piano than the JV series.

Here are my questions:

1) What do you think of the piano sound of the XV compared to other instruments... in particular Yamaha P80, possibly Kurzweil micro-piano?

2) do you have a US price for XV3080?

Thanks

Sk,
The only Roland expansion board that has better piano samples than the JV1010 is already included! It's the session board, and it comes with the 1010. The dedicated "piano" board was introduced BEFORE the latest wave of JV series keyboards and has NOTHING to offer over the stock sounds in the newer modules. Don't even consider the piano board unless you really hate all the offerings in the 1010.
(doubtful, since you have an sk880 )So far I have yet to hear a better piano, with better touch response than the P80. (Yamaha)
That includes ALL the Kurzweils, Korgs, etc...ALL of em ! The P80 is just stunning!
It's also VERY affordable, sturdy, and feels great!( And it's light, too - under 40lbs! )
I haven't heard the XV stuff yet, but remember, alot of how a sound reacts is related to the controller too. The sk880 felt pretty good to me, but how expressive is it with filter openings and timbre changes with velocity, etc.? These are all very important to the natural, acouctic sound of a piano. The acoustic piano is arguably the most complex instrument in all the world, so it would stand to reason that it's the hardest to faithfully reproduce ALL of it's strong points in one instrument. Even between two or three acoustics - there can be a world of difference. It's so hard to deal with the resonance of the harp, the wood, the reflection of the overtones off the lid. It's just so many things to do at once. The P80 comes the closest for me. If I was carrying more than one piece - I'd have one as the foundation of my rig. THAT, and the X1 would be soooooooo sweet!

I'm not going to say which sound I prefer between the S80 or XV because they are both very good (but different sounding!) factory piano sounds.

The XV factory pianos are miles ahead of the JV sounds (but the JV1010's session board does indeed have a great piano sound!).

I also like the pianos in my Triton Piano expansion board.

Check out Kurzweil's new compact digital pianos- small, with alot of control and great sounds.

If the P80 does it for you then get it!

PS- Remember that you get a totally different impression playing piano sounds depending on whether it's an weighted keyboard or not! Cheers.

Thanks for all replies,

If yamaha makes a sound module that contains the P80 piano sound and just the P80 piano sound, I will buy it right away.
