My XP-80 is acting screwy. I think the problem is in the joystick. The keyboard is starting to pitch fluxuate on me. I can be playing along and suddenly it will be playing a quarter to a half step out of tune. Usually it goes flat. I think it is in the joystick because if I move it up, it goes up to where it should, so usually about a step and a quarter up. When I move it down, it also goes where it should, about 3/4 step lower. Powering the board off and back on again does not help. It will just stay out until it decides to come back in tune again. If I disable the joystick for the patch in common controls, the pitch is fine. So I'm pretty sure the problem is in the mechanics of the joystick. It also plays hell on my sequences, playing in about 3 different keys at once.

Will this be an expensive fix? I'm going to be in Nashville through most of July. Anyone know of a place there where I could have it worked on? Will it be a difficult fix? I'm playing the Opryland Hotel on July 10, and I'd like to have a dependable keyboard there. Do you think it could be something that just got messed up that a factory reset would fix?

Sounds to me like it's mechanical and the joystick needs cleaning or replacement. The only thing I'd do is spray some dust off around the stick...I dunno if I'd try using any electronics cleaner...may damage something else. You may be able to replace the entire joystick assembly yourself if you can find a new one from Roland.
