In Cakewalk I'm having a hard time utilizing all of my 3080's capabilities. I'd like to have track 1 use my expansion board piano sound (the SRX-02 is unbelievable). I'd like track 2 to use the 12-string guitar from PR-H.

If I simply set the banks and patches to their corresponding ones in Cakewalk, it doesn't work. The 3080 acts as if it can only play patches from one bank at a time or something.

I *could* set up a performance and have Cakewalk use that for different patches, but that seems like an awful lot of trouble, not to mention if I wanted to use more than 16 patches I'd have to set up another performance or send patch changes in the middle of the song, which I find messy.

Is there any way around this?

You got it! Thats what the Perfomance mode is for. It allows you to assign different sounds to different MIDI channels. Its the only multitimbral mode on the JV/XP synths.

If you have the INS files for the 3080 for Cakewalk, all you have to do is put the 3080 in Performance mode and you can perform patch changes from within Cakewalk itself - you never have to touch the 3080.

This seems to work fine for all patches except for the expansion board ones. For the expansion board sounds, the part turns to:

Type --- Group ---- Number ---(------------)

When using Cakewalk and any Roland expansion boards (SR-JV,SRX) you have to first get the INS file for that card and then manually edit the INS file for the XV and add the contents of the expansion board's INS so it will show up correctly. There is no other way around this because of the fact that each expansion slot has its own bank number and 2 people could have the same cards, but they could be in different slots.

Kind of a pain in the butt... I had to do it with my XP-30 and the Vintage Synth board.

Let me know if you need more specific instructions.
