I was playing with the s900 pretty loud; and I felt the speakers (part close to the screen) and they were HOT...

Is this normal?

As I recall, the speaker area did get a bit hot on the 900.

Yeah they get warm there. Its normal. We have not had any come back in the three years I have been selling them for heat related issues. We did have One blow a screen white after two weeks of ownership. Yamaha replaced it. Not to worry.

Speakers do not generally create heat, what you are feeling is the heat from the backlight on the LCD panel, you pretty much confirm it from saying 'part close to the screen'

The grill between the screen and the speaker is actually the amp on each side. When your playing with the speakers on each side get warm and if you look closely will can see vents to release the heat.
