Is it just me or are there no really good or convincing third party patches out there for our JVs. They all suck! The best third party patches that I've heard so far was Roland's own DANCE KIT collection.

The new patch bank that Roland has at its site really suck big time. They sound so generic. The DANCE KIT sounds professionally programmed and worthy of use in compositions. Every other 3rd party bank I've heard sound like variations of what we already have.

The KORGs and ALESISs have trillions of great 3rd party patches as do the Roland D series. What about us? What about alternate patches to load into our internal banks to use with the expansion boards?

I know I'm whining, but imagine the increment of usefulness our XPs and SRJV boards would have with some of the stuff I just mentioned. Every other synth manufacturer does this, why not Roland?

Are there any 3rd party patched that you heard that REALLY sound good?

The Infamous EPU.

I don't have a sure answer for you, did you try the sample super JV sounds by Kid Nepro ?

When I had by Jv880, I got all the Voice Crystal PCM cards- I thought that was a good value. Unfortunately Voice Crystals web site is dormant- I got no response when i wrote about patches for the 1080/2080.

If you have the Vintage Board, I would highly recommend the patches by Kid Nepro. Their Vintage set is really good. Their film/soundtrack set is pretty good as well. I've also heard really good things about a German company selling XP/JV sounds, but they are quite expensive. I don't remember their name, but you should be able to find them on the JV/XP Web Ring.

I have the Kid Nepro Triton volumes 1 & 2.

Overall its a pretty good value. Vol 1 does a nice job creating synthy sounds. Vol 2 just came out and some of the patches are incomplete. However, their service seems quite responsive so I am confident they can correct.
