I really did not think I would be doing this but being stubborn and relentless I gave it a go. I dug into the T3 and found I can indeed recreate some old material by creating styles for some parts. Its not as difficult as I expected. (Note to self: "Don;t believe everything you read).

May put the M3M on hold and use soft synths to change out a few voices and create my own Arpeggios.

It is more work than simply using a PC but it can be done relatively easily. Manuals are a good thing. (Even when one has to print them out off a CD)

You don't want to hear the styles I created last night LOL. It's going to take awhile to really get the hang of the "process" so the "Flow" can take over which is where the real creativity begins. I'm still looking for the flow and how to put the PC into the style creation mix so I can use pre written Midi files instead of re playing everything.

Kingfrog.., I'm tellin ya man, those styles sequencers are VERY useful often unexplored tools on arrangers. They're really not too hard to use either. You can save yourself a lot o time hunting for a perfect style simply by editing a preset or creating your own. I find it really odd that people constantly dump boards when the preset styles get old to them..., when they just barely scratched the surface of what their board can really do.

I agree with you 110%. I have always been one of those people who play sounds "out of the box". Never got into programming sounds. My entire decision to buy a particular keyboard was not about what it COULD do. But what it does today.

The T3 is changing that. I am realizing not only can new voices be created with plenty of parameters but styles as well. Something I really did not give much thought until I attempted to use MIDI to redo one of my own sequenced "arrangements"

I was getting ready to drop a grand on a Korg M3M (which I would use probably 30% of)as an easy MIDI voice module only.

Not to mention it helps selling it when I can actually demo EVERYTHING it can do.

The Rose is in full bloom....

Hi Kingfrog,
if you really want to involve a pc & midifiles in your style creation process, check out some of the psr style programs ie
Jorgens Midi2Style (free)
Michaels Stylemaker (free)http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software.htm

Jos's One Man Band (not frehttp://www.1manband.nl/omb.htme)
You can create styles from your midifile parts, when loaded into the t3 , you can mix n match T3 with user style tracks.

I still use One Man Band for style creation/editing even though I've switched to Korg PA800. It's handy for helping me convert the odd psr style across to korg format via midifile. Also has the capability of saving individual style tracks.

Have fun

Creating a style from scratch using Yamaha's built-in Style Creator program is not at all difficult. It takes a bit of time, some creativity, and when you think you're finished--you're not. It will likely need some fine tuning and a bit of tweaking, but when the final product reaches the completion stage you'll be a happy camper, and the creating each subsequent style will be much easier.

Squeak echoed what I've been saying for many years on this and other forums. Only a small percentage of arranger keyboard players and owners ever scratch the surface of their arrangers capabilities.

Cheers,

Gary
