Hi I'm thinking of getting the XP-30 to complement my XP-10 and TR-Rack (I use the 10 as a master for the Trinity).

Is it worth it? I love the idea of the XP80/JV1080 patches and the patches from the Sess / orch / Techno expansion boards.

I will mainly be using the synths in an orchestra pit for musical theatre.

Thanks

Martin

It will be a big improvement over your Xp 10. Only reservation I have over the Xp 30 is the puny 2 line LCD. Make sure you can read it, move around, etc. If that is tolerable, you probably don't need the Xp 10 as a master.

Compared to the XP-10, I'd say it is definitely "worth it". By the way, isn't the XP-10 LCD a two-line one as well? I haven't seen a 10 in a long time.

Martin,

The XP30 comes with Emagic SoundDiver, a software to edit patches, performances and system parameters of JV/XP synths. SD also works as librarian to store the patches/performances.

Editing patches using the XP-30 itself isn't really all that bad either once you get used to the abbreviations, how to scroll from screen to screen, and the way the XP-30 OS is set up.

Mixermanic-

There is no point keeping your XP10 if you get the XP30 as the latter is so much more flexible!

The XP/TR combination is good as Roland and Korg sounds complement each other very nicely indeed. The XP's display is not that bad (and that is coming from someone who is vision impaired!!!!) and the extra session etc sounds are great (as you already know).

Another option so check out is the new Yamaha S30 synthe. This has a 'Yamaha' sound as opposed to a 'Roland' sound but after playing it's big brother the S80 the other week, I would seriously consider comparing it to the XP before parting with your hard earned cash!

In the end however, the XP is a great instrument. Enjoy making music!!!!
