I am currently in the process of trying to decide what synth to upgrade to. I like the look and sound of xp30 and the price. I use my synth for gigging and so I needsomething versatile and reasonably tough. Is ther any one out there who can give me some sound advice??

What kind of music do you play? The sounds you need will greatly determine which synth you should get.

I play in a worship band and we play upbeat rock type of music some fast some slow and gentle--not the old hymns and such-like

You can't go wrong with the XP30 then. I have one as well. You get around 1,400 sounds out of the box, the Session, Orchestral and Techno boards built in as well as room for 2 more SR-JV cards.

Newer synths like the RS-5/9 have the better sounds from the XV series synths but lack aftertouch key response and have no sound expansion/upgrade capabilities.

I don't think the RS-5/9 have better sounds (the XVs do, but not the budget RS), and I think we all can agree on that the XP-30's keyboard is more solid.

The XP-30 is one of the best value buys around.

Thank you

Yes I agree that xp30 is good value. I will go ahead with purchasing mine when my money comes thru in 2 or 3 weeks. I asked the roland dealer to work thru it with me and it looks and feels better value than rs5/9. When I get it home I will write for help in this forum. Thankfully the xp30 looks realtively easy to get to grips with. To everyone who has replied to me I give big, big thanks as your help has been invaluable.
