Roland XV series sound modules claims that they are capable of 'extensive layering and multitimbral applications'. Does anyone know what's that 'extensive layering' and 'multitimbral applications'?

I'd say 32 MIDI channels of multitimbral capability is "extensive".

The 5080 has the ability to create layer upon layer of sounds, with defined split points or roll-offs.
