How do you save a single sound from a user location onto a floppy? I know how to save all the sounds, system data, performances and rhythm sets on to 1 .SVD file. But, there has to be a way to just save one patch, performance, or rhythm set isn't there?

Hi.
No, I don't think that is possible.. But you can load a single patch or performance.

The only possible solution I can think of, would be to dump the patch as MIDI SYSEX. I am not sure about the details here..

On the XP50/60/80, you can save individual perfs, patches, and rhythm sets as sysex in songs in the sequencer, then save the songs to disk. You can have a whole library of individual patches in "dummy songs."

Until you become familiar with this procedure, it's best to have your patch, performance, or rhythm set in TEMP so it will load back to TEMP. That is, if you save from USER, it will load back to (write over) USER. So stay with TEMP for now.

-> Utility -> 4. Data Transfer

Source = Perform TEMP, or Patch TEMP, or Rhythm TEMP, whichever you are saving.

Destination = SEQ
= Transmitting DATA to the internal song.

This will transfer the sysex data for the individual perf, patch, or rhythm set to 1:01:01 of the internal song in the sequencer. You can also specify track or even a pattern(!).

(If you choose Destination = MIDI, it will transfer that sysex data from MIDI out to your software sequencer. Same principle.)

-> Execute.

The sysex for the perf, patch, or rhythm set is now at 1:01:01 in the internal song (go into microscope mode and you can see it).

Now NAME the internal song whatever the name of the perf, patch, or rhythm set is that you just saved, e.g., MyCoolPatch.

Now SAVE the song MyCoolPatch onto disk. Now you have a song called MyCoolPatch.svq.

When you load the song back into the internal sequencer memory and play it, it will "play" the sysex back into TEMP and "deposit" your perf, patch, or rhythm set there in TEMP. Then you can save it wherever you want in USER.

I hope this helps.

Indeed it helps! Dnarkosis comes through again. Henceforth, I think I shall just direct all my questions to a thread called, "hey dnarkosis".
In all honesty, stigf has been helpful as well. Most of my useful info has come from these two members.
Hey Stigf, how come you have and f in your user name and never sign the f at the bottom of your post?

No, no, no; I know how to perform 8 or 10 procedures that have been important to my own situation; occasionally they coincide with something someone else wants to do, and I'm glad to help. But there are a lot of posts I *don't* answer because I *can't*.

BTW: before the internet and before all these forums were available, I spent a lot of time on the phone with Roland tech support.

FAEbGBD:

I'm glad to help.. I have had my XP-60 for 3 years, and I try to help whenever I am able to.

I answer posts related to the XP/JV, synths in general, digital audio etc. I know nothing of Cakewalk etc.

I agree with you; dnarkosis is very helpful on this BBS..

I sign with Stig, as that is my first name; F is the first letter in my last name..
I can already guess the next question: Where on earth do people have names like that.. Well, the answer to that is Norway.

I'm quite impressed with your command of English. Most Americans don't know the uses of the ; and : Do you work in some sort of International capacity?

FAEbGBD, thank you!

No, my work is not international in any way..

We learn english in school from an age of about 10. And, you see, the "rules" for using the ; and : are the same in norwegian.
