Just bought a jv1080, excellent piece of engineering. Just wondering with the user section, are the patches in that at all different to the ones in the preset banks? Or if they are, are they worth keeping? I'm a little hesitant to overwrite and a few editing software programs keep stuffing up. There's all these little changes I've got to make. (Stereo delay on uilleann pipes? What were they thinking???) Thanks.

The JV1080's user patches are a selection taken from the preset banks so don't be afraid to overwrite them. I think this is the aim but really, it would have been nice of Roland to have programmed an extra 128 new ones for us! I myself managed to download the Bank E patches of the JV2080 into the user patch memory so I have 640 different patches. Some of these are truly excellent sounds also.

Thanks for the reply, anybody know a good editor for the JV? I tried something called SuperJV and couldn't get it to work - it was completely lacking in help files.

Whilst it might be a bit more expensive because it supports over 300 devices, check out Emagics Soundiver software. This fully supports the JV1080. As a matter of fact the newer, JV1010 and XP30 come bundled with a cut down version of Soundiver to edit with ease from you computer.
