It occurred to me that the XV series synths may incorporate sounds that were originally on JV expansion boards, making some boards somewhat redundant. Are there some JV boards that would not be recommended because too many of their sounds on stock on the 5080?

Hi,
The XV's contain the JV-2080 waveforms, JD-990 waveforms, and *new* waveforms, ie not found on the expansion boards.
If you classify for example "strings" as strings, irregardless of the specific timbre, than you will have duplication on any boards.

Thanks, David

I have not noticed any duplication, although I think it would not be unreasonable to "fold in" some expansion boards in a new model. I think Roland did this with the 1010, folding in the Session board. Anyway, I have only one JV slot left and it will probably go to a card yet to be released.
