I'm considering to get one second hand.
Is it really worth it?
I've read a lot of good reviews. But when I see the waveformslists, it seems to me there are a lot of similar waves.
I make various styles of electronic music (trance, chill, spacemusic) with mainly my XP-80 and various software.

I love mine! I'm essentially a novice when it comes to knowledge of waveform differences and comparisons, but if you are from that early era, you'll have a lot of fun playing around with them. That spacey music you mention playing is perfect for this board. I can agree that several of the patches sound similar.

Good luck with finding one second hand. I also own an XP-80 - a great workstation!

BTW: Roland created two extra patch banks for this board after the appearance of the JV/XP series. The board was originally created before that series was out, so does not really make use of the new EFX in those synths. The new banks use those EFX.

I assume they are available at the Roland site somewhere.

This card is a killer!!! Raw analogue sounds is what you get, as well as some nice FX waves. Best used for leads, harsh voices and old-school pads. Buy it!, buy it!, buy it!

It's a good'un.

You do get a bunch of saw waves, pulse waves, etc, from different sources, and it is sometimes the difference is hardly noticable, but hay it's nice to have a choice.

Mine lives in a JD-990. This board was released for this machine in mind, as it has an addition set of patches to the normal JV patches.
It might be the extra set that 'dnarkosis' was refering to.

My Italian is not so good, but I think I've found them!
http://www.roland.it/patch.htm

"Il file SYN-01.MID e 02 contiene delle patches dedicate alla scheda di espansione SR-JV80-04"Vintage Synth"."

Well, I'll know it for sure tomorrow.
Is there a way to make a .syx bank file from a midi file?
