Can someone tell if Cakewalk (or any other software MIDI sequencer's) Instrument Definitions from various manufacturers & their devices will play on the JV-1010? I hooked up a Korg 01/W (MIDI Out) to my computer (MIDI In), imported the Korg 01/W Instrument Definitions Bank into my project; & played. My Sound Module (Roland JV-1010) played it's own version of the Korg sounds. I tried Sysx dumps...I tried everything (I think.) Is there something I am missing, or should I be asking the question: If Instrument Definitions from one manufaturer won't play on a sound module from another manufacturer, what's the freakin' point? What exactly is their purpose? Thanks.

I use voyettra's Digital Orchestrator PLus to send MIDI signals to my JV1010. I do however send the MSB and the LSB (for bank selection) when I send the patch selection to a track.

This enables me to choose any of the 8 banks of sounds I have available. I've not purchased any additional expansion boards. It came with the "Session" board.

This might otherwise be known as Bank Selection.

However I don't use the patch definition lists.

I would imagine you could choose your bank through cakewalk as I do with Orchestrator PLus.

I found a MIDI Implementation chart in the book and one online. There is listed what the MSB and LSB shoudl be for proper bank selection. Of course though these MSB's and LSB's will most likely not be read correctly by any other synth.

I was actually hoping (in my naivete) that the JV-1010 could play sounds from a downloaded Bank & Patch file from another sound module manufacturer (Korg.) Shoulda' realized...if I want Korg sounds I have to get the Korg synth. Thanks.
