Hey,
I've heard that you can download new patches onto your xp...how? How do you go about downloading these? DO they go on your user patches? And can you just download them onto a floppy disk and then stick that in your xp and pick them up from there? Let me know...please.

It depends on what format you use in download. If you download .syx files, you need to connect to the computer via MIDI. If you download in .SVD or .mid you can load them from the disk drive on the synthe. I've only gotten .mid to work directly from the drive to the synthe. I know the drive reads .SVD too so I don't exactly know what I'm doing wrong there.

Yes, they do go into user memory usually. it depends if you got single sounds or groups that have been put in a library. If you get just single sounds, they'll usually just load into temp memory and then you can save it in whichever user location you want. If you get groups of sounds in a library, they'll load into the user memories. So be sure to back up your user memories and system data on floppy or they'll be toast.

Hmm...okay. Do you happen to know a site on the web where I can get those kind of patches to download? How do I go about saving what I already have on the user presets? I know I might be able to find this in the manual...but man that thing is a pain to read!

Here's where I got disks full of patches.
http://jv-patches.onlinehome.de/index2.html
I got them in .mid format, unzipped it, and found lots of files in lots of categories. Put them on a floppy, took it to my
keyboard, simply played one of the files as if playing a sequence, and had a host of patches. Of course, each time you play a different file, the info in the user banks will change. You'll end up deleting a few of the files probably, because the patches in them are not really that good or are completely unsuitable for your needs.

As far as saving info on disk, push disk, push numeric 2 for save, press enter, select sound for file type, name the file anything, mine was called "my sounds" and press execute. A file called "mysounds.SVD will be on the disk.
I've had no problem reloading my own SVD files back onto the keyboard. Only SVD files I downloaded gave me problems; maybe they get corrupted when I unzip or something, but .mid files have never caused any problems for me.

Thanks! I'm going to try that as soon as I get home from work. Have a nice holiday.
