I learned today that Gary Diamond had a heart attack I believe on Sunday. Anyway, he had two stints put in and seemed to be doing ok when I spoke with him today.

I hope he doesn't mind me posting this - I know he has helped dozens of folks here and has always been willing to do anything he could to help members with keyboard problems.

That is all I know - those of you who have known him for a while might want to check in with him.

Hammer

Thanks for the get-well wishes everyone. I was discharged from the hospital yesterday, I'm still a bit weak from the ordeal, but overall I'm just happy to be able to reply to still be among the living.

My heart attack was relatively mild, and fortunately, produced no ischemic damage to the heart muscle. It came on suddenly, there were no typical warnings, but the symptoms were classic, arm pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea. Thanks to my wife, just 12 minutes after it happened I was in the hospital being connected to an EKG machine and oxygen was being administered.

While the EKG was normal, blood enzymes revealed I indeed experienced a heart attack. I was transferred to another hospital where a cardiac catheterization was performed and two stents placed in my left anterior descending coronary artery, thus opening an 85 percent blockage.

Guess I'll have to go back on the exercise program, doc said to loose 25 pounds, which will put me back to 175 again, and stay away from the wild women and booze. He also told me to slow down and take some time to smell the roses, which I fully intend to do.

I cancelled all my jobs for the next three weeks, I'm taking the month of January and part of February off to visit some of the zoners living in the sunny south, and cutting my schedule down to just 100 jobs a year. This will give me more time to take my wife, children and grandson sailing.

Thanks again everyone,

Gary

Hey Gary, maybe just cut back a little on the wild women.

Seriously, sorry to hear the news, but glad to know it was mild and your doing well. Take it easy and do whatever you have to for 100% recovery.

HI GARY,
I am really sorry to hear that you had to go through this but truly thankful that you got immediate attention and survived it.
My wife Jann had a heart attack 7 years ago just like yours and had stents installed. she is doing fine how ever I always have this concern and pass it on to you to think about.
we no longer have our big motor yacht so we are not cruising offshore nowdays in the Pacific but we do have a large motorhome to travel by land. This is my concern:
What if we are out in the middle of the desert and Jann has another heartattack worse then the last one that did in fact kill part of the heart muscle. Worse yet what if she is driving this 14 ton 60 foot long conbination of motorhomme towing the sports car.
These are my fears and they surface everytime we load up and head out.
I know you do a lot of sailing on the bay. I hope you will always think about this and take someone with you versed in CPR.
We pray for your complete recovery,
Best regards,
Bill and Jann

Glad to hear the good news - feet above ground is usually a good thing indeed. I can see giving up the booze but wild women, no way, didn't the Doctor tell you needed to lose weight& excercise.

My Sandra had a stint put in 5 years ago and she has given up driving except for small local trips. But you raised some valid questions.

I never go anywhere without Asprin and I wonder if it's possible to get portable Oxegen tanks for travel and the house.

Thanks guys and gals. The doctor prescribed a small batch of nitroglycerin pills to carry with me at all times. He said I probably will never need them, but they can be real handy if the need ever arises.

Bill (Bebop), I talked with the doc about sailing and he said try to set up my trips on his day off. He loves to sail and loves the 27 Catalina because it handles well and is relatively fast.

Thanks again everyone,

Gary

That is great Gary, I am happy to hear that. I will have to talk to Jann's doc and see if she would like to go traveling on her days off. She is a young fox that would make a great driver
Hang in there Gary, Just don't forget to get the stents cleaned and reoiled every few years.
Jerry, Lotsa people are driving around the ountry with these big motorhomes and carrying portable oxygen bottles in addition to their oxygen pumping unit they also cary along.
Best to all,

Good to hear Gary!

This might be (another) lesson to all of us regarding Time Off/Holidays....!
We try and take at least 2 weeks off a year now, EVERY year - as opposed to NO holidays for the past ten (!) years....

Stay well everyone

Gary,
That's great news! Glad everything worked out ok at the hospital!

They found it fast and fixed it fast...that's what we all wish for if we have that problem come up.

Being 60 now...I sometimes think what would happen if I had a problem when I go on my fishing trips to Canada...about 30 minutes to the parking area by boat fom the cabin...then 30 more to the little town of Dryden, OT.

Oh well, can't live in fear.

Oh my, sorry to hear about it Gary. You know I've been through it twice. Carpe diem, my friend.

P.S. I've got a little keyring attachment thingy that holds several nitro pills. Much better than carrying the little bottle of pills. You may never need it but you need to have it with you just in case.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your well-wishes and look forward to meeting many of my Synthzone friends in person next January. After just six days of confinement Cabin Fever is beginning to set in, and the weather has been perfect for sailing. But, unfortunately, I cannot go on the boat until I get an OK from the cardiologists on September 2, which seems like eons from now.

Thanks again,

Gary

Well, haha, my only vice is I still have a drink or two a couple times a week. Occasionally, I fall into Ernest's and their drinks are strong and I go overboard. Now, that part isn't so good. I haven't licked that part. BTW, I shot 71 yesterday, shoulda been a couple lower, the usual claim, haha. That's more like it versus what YOU saw!

Thanks Bill, and thanks for the phone call this evening. I have blocked off most of the month of January for a whirlwind trip to the sunny south, and hope to meet up with lots of friends while there. I'm really looking forward to the trip.
