I am also looking for a good quality audio interface for my home studio (200-500$ range). Pls help with your valuable inputs.

If you go to 500$ then i wont recomend you anything thats USB, simply its too slow.
Try to find one of the EMU 1616 or 1616M
it is probably the best on the market money-value.

If you are only going to record two inputs max at once USB 2.0 is more than adequate. Edirol makes a fine interface for $200.

M-Audio is fine too. You really don't need FW but if you want FW Check out MOTU for really good interfaces in all shapes and sizes.

We use both. The wife uses an M-Audio USB interface on her notebook and I use the Motif XS LAN FW interface and have a Presonus Firebox as well which I cannot use because FW does not allow multiple ports without a proprietary driver,

I have the EMU Audio interface (1820m) and it is superb. I think the one I have is replaced by a different model now..anyway Sweetwater has them.

Shiju, pop over to the Sound On Sound forums and ask the same question..NO, change that : do a SEARCH on that same question and you will get hundreds of responses about the pros and cons of FW-v-USB, plus reviews and opinions on just about EVERY interface there is
