I'm new to midi, and I need to get a library of Midi voices. Which has the best of the best synth pads? That's mainly what I'm interested in as that will be what I use it mostly for (if not solely what I use it for). If I'm gonna spend money on a library, I want to make sure I get the best one, but I know nothing. Can anyone help???

Thank you so much!

Hi,
I'm not sure what you mean by "library of MIDI voices". Are you looking for sounds for a specific synthesizer that you are using?
If pads and atmospheres is what you are after something like ILIO's "Atmosphere" is probably what some call "Best of the best". Mind you there is no such thing. IT's more like, "okay, I like it so it's good" or the other.
IN other words it is very individual. There are no good or bad sound libraries out there. It's all in what you're after.

I just don't know the terminology, sorry about that. I'm looking for a collection of sounds to put on my computer to use with MIDI. Using Pro-tools or another MIDI program I want to add good synth pads to my music. So using my midi keyboard connected to my computer I want to record it. The midi sounds on my computer are terrible as you can imagine. I want a collection of professional sounds (or whatever the terminology is) to choose from. Specifically synth pads.

Hi!
Before I end up writing a bunch of confusing stuff I will need to clarify something.

Are the sounds you're using coming out of your keyboard or your PC?
If you need to get a software instrument (or a few) for the PC to run right inside Pro Tools it's no problem. You'll just have to get them in the right plug-in format (I think it is RTAS in Pro Tools) and make sure that your PC meets the system requirements for plug-in instruments you will decide to use.

If on the other hand it is your MIDI keyboard that produces the sound (You will have to tell me what it is) it wil pretty much depend on it's synth engine and capabilities.

Thanks for your response. I'm not looking for sounds to come out of the keyboard I'm looking for soft-synths.

Hi!
I thought so, but just wanted to make sure.

If pads is what you're after than perhaps you should check out Ilio "Atmosphere" since it is a dedicated pad and ambient/atmospheric synth.

It is good according to many of my colleagues and even clients (I run a recording/ production studio).

My personal favorites for Pads and Atmospheres are:

1. Ultimate Sound bank "Ultra Focus".
2. NI Absynth 3.
3. Vector Sektor (Although it is basically a Prophet VS. I like the filters and response. Killer Pads and attack sounds)
4. NI FM7.

Also a whole bunch of Apple/eMagic synths that come with Logic Pro but since you're using Pro Tools (I take it no TDM?) you wil not be able to use them.

There are other software synths great for Pad sounds but since I only know what I use I can't say if their good or not. Will just have to wait for others to post.

We, ShenZhen Jiuwu Industry Co.,Ltd. are a high tech enterprise in China that specialized is the research and development of digital product, mp3, usb flash disk and the VOIP products.
Our new products is U-plate netphone and MP3 netphone. These products added the VOIP function to the traditional usb flash disk and mp3 player. We had integrated a sound card in the equipment. Moreover, there is a coded section that had builded in VOIP software. And the coded section would save the user's private information, such as account information, contact person and the instant message(We had built-in the SKYPE softphones). Just as the mp3 player or usb flash disk connected to the computer, the IP phone software will run autoly. then you could ring a call. It's really a plug-and-play IP phone.

The new generation ip phone is small but dedicate. however, u can also use it as a mp3 player and usb flash disk. and the most important thing is the price is more or less the same as the traditional ip phones. it¡¯s quite value for money.

IP Phones?
What does this have to do with topic of this thread though? You may want to start a separate thread to advertise your products.

Over here we're talking about software synths.

Well said Ed. There are sooo many good softsynths for pad sounds. My favs include: Lin Plug Albino
Atmosphere
Absynth 3
Sytrus
RGC Audio Z3ta,
FM7
several other good ones out there as well.

There are even some very good freeware ones to get you started :

Synth 1, but... be sure to d/l the extra banks available on the 'net as the presets don't do it justice.
Green Oak Crystal
Superwave P8
GalactiX

Good Luck with them ...
