Diki, there are several references to Charles Pitts, which I had never heard. There are also references to Howard as a producer on lots of "Blacksploitation" film scores from the period. Also, there's a guy named Jerry Coelho, a music educator of some note who claims to have studied under Howard, who he refers to as the player on "Theme From Shaft", "Bonanza", "The Adams Family" and every beach movie ever filmed. Howard has over 2000 recording credits, including ones with the Beach Boys and many jazz "mainstay" players.
I've looked around and can't find anything more definite than that....Interesting!

Found a couple of Roberts discographies. One lists "Theme From Shaft", with a note that howard wasn't credited, but the belief is, it was him. I'd heard that the "Shaft Guitar Man" was Roberts for years and read it several places, but it may not be true. I'm going to look a little longer this week-end. Always thought it was not exactly Roberts style, but he was a major session player, with over 2,000 credits.
I've run into conflicting info before on certain playing credits. Sometimes players did not get credit. Other times, the infor was just wrong.
I'm really curious about this one!
