Could someone explain the sys ex dump thingy to me.. i have a xp-30 that i want to use with cakewalk.. i set the instruments up all fine in a performance setup on the synth.. and make a song.. then i turn off the synth and my setup is gone.. isnt there a way with sys ex or something that i can first "record" the setup on the synth?

If you can guide me with this, I will be eternally grateful and sprinkle you with flowers.

Sys/Ex commands can be recorded in a track, as if they were note data. Start the recording on any track, and execute the command for a dump. This will "set up" the keyboard before you start recording notes in your next session. Play back the track into the keyboard and begin your new recording at whatever measure you end up in at the end of the dump.
*** You can also just send individual patch commands in each track of Cakewalk. It may be faster that way.

I use the same setup.... an XP-30 with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. The easiest thing to do is to create a blank performance (with any sounds...it doesnt matter, and with all the midi channels set up the way you want and all the balance and velocity settings at a reasonable level.) In cakewalk, you can just pick what sound you want for each track by selecting a bank and patch under the Track Info screen. Then whenever you hit play, the keyboard will change its sounds to match whatever cakewalk is playing.
