Hi Guys,

I only need a device like that for recording 4 tracks at live performances of our group. two miked and two from the table.
So I'm very interested if some of you is using the H4N (not the H4!)
It's pretty expensive in europe(euro 349) while in us it's $ 349,-- (euro 239,--) so
I might order one online in usa, but if I do that there's usually no return possibility, so your experences with the device used will be very helpfull.

So far the comments I found on the web:
1. bad battery cover (breaks easily)
2. A lot of background noise with the mike recordings (could be a bad production or a real downer?)
3. Lost time and date when battery replaced

I could not find any comment about the 4 track recording which is the part I'm interested in.

(just saw $ 299,-- in usa... )

All three of those comments could be simple inexperience.

People often expect more isolation from room mikes than is practical, and don't notice just how noisy the background actually IS... You can change the batteries quickly, or with the USB cable plugged into the computer - neither should cause the clock to lose settings... And careful handling avoids breakage.

Anyway, I'll have one soon to confirm or deny those things.

I have the H4n by Zoom and have found it to be flawless in recording live performances. Our group burns CDs directly from these recordings with no problems. I attach the unit to a mic stand and place it in a location to capture the sound of the entire group through the main PA system. Works great.

No problem with the battery cover?

I just come right out of the board with an H2 and get great results.

The thing that the H4n does that the H2 doesn't which made me make the move (I was VERY happy with my H2) is, it is capable of recording off the line-ins AND the mikes simultaneously, either to the same stereo track or to four tracks (two stereo),

For those of us that play with live bands from time to time, there's always the problem of the board mix being too light on the drums and guitar, and the room mikes being TOO heavy on the drums (or guitar, or crowd noise, or whatever). Now you can record BOTH, then mix them together later.

Thanks Larry, but did you use the option of four tracks simultaniously??
This is where I need it for.
You want the clean recording from the table, but also the live recording, to blend them together and keep the live sound.
