Well yes actually. If someone can sing or whistle very well why would you not consider them to be musically capable regardless of what music is accompanying them? Their performance is everything.

You would think it hardly worth inventing the word, if that's the definition. Might as well add everyone who has an iPod or a radio, then, as well. I mean, the piece of gear in their hands makes music, so that makes them a 'musician', too

Maybe being a musician is like the definition of 'art'... I don't know what it is, but I know it when I see it..!
