OK.......I will answer your question on the computer issue first...my apologies if i run through obvious things but you'd be suprised at some of the simple problems people have.

1. as you have the platinum I pressume you have the breakout box...plug Midi out of your breakout box to Midi in of your XP30 and the Midi in of the platinum to the Midi out of the XP30
2. There should be a local/tx/rx button by the function keys..(i'm only going on what i know from the XP60) and you need to set local to off
3. Depending on what program you are using and how its interface works you will probably need to set the Midi to external in the appropriate menu or tick box, so that it sends and recieves MIDI messages
4. Now....try it just in patch mode..and see whether it is transmitting and receiving. (note. it will only work with an appropriate program running and on MIDI channel 1.
5. if you want to do sequences you will need to press perform and then common....and set keymode to single as opposed to layered nd then make sure you set the midi channels to the corresponding ones on your computer based sequencer.
6. YOU WILL NOT HEAR THE SOUND IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR XP PLUGGED INTO ANY SOUNDING DEVICE....IF YOU WANT IT TO GO THROUGH YOUR COMPUTER THEN YOU NEED TO PLUG THE HEADPHONE OUT OF THE XP TO THE LINE IN OF YOUR PLATINUM AND MAKESURE LINEIN IS NOT MUTED.
