Ok, I've purchased an XP-30 and I've dealt with the XV-3080....I've noticed that the waveforms are definitely the same - but the XV's are definitely much thicker sounding.

Rather than spend big cash on a new XV - I've decided that since the waveforms come from the same roots, that there must be a way to thicken the sounds to "XV Status" if you will.

Anyway...since I'm dislexic this manual for the XP (which I've heard is complicated enough) is basically useless to me, so does anyone know a video manual I could get for the xp-30? maybe the xp-60 or xp-80 manual since they're all the same synth?

And more important, what would YOU recommend adding to the sounds to thicken them up? External multitap? Heavy chorus from an outside processor? Any tips wuold be appreciated.

The XV may be the same samples , but Roland resampled in stereo for the new series..

I would say nothing can thicken or thin out a sound like a good equalizer. You can chorus, reverb, delay, etc your sounds until they're nothing but mud. Most times for me just adding some highs for extra sparkle, and some low mids for fatness, will produce warmth and thickness. Get a decent parametric eq and hear the difference.

Hi,

The XP-30 is using the original Super-JV XP-chip Engine at 32k.
The XV-3080 is using the upgraded XP6 Engine at 32k. The XP6 includes (as mentioned) stereo waveforms abilities, but also includes Matrix Mod, new MFX, and 24-bit DACs.

I recommend looking into one of the XV-5080 Engine units, which are 44.1k and IMHO much better.
This includes the XV-2020, XV-5050, XV-5080, Fantom, and Fantom-S models.
