Hi,
I'm new to synths and Midi and I'm using a Yamaha DX7 to control a Roland JV-2080 and I'm having trouble accessing the rhythm sets in the 2080.

The Roland manual says set the Midi "transmit channel" of the controller to 10 to access the rhythm sets. I set the DX7 midi channel (it doesn't specify "transmit," it just says "midi channel" to 10 and I still hear the old patch, not the rhythm set. Is it posible that there's no "transmit" channel on the DX7, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Anyone ever run into this? Any suggestions or solutions?

Thanks,
brendan

It's possible...
I beleive very early DX7's only transmitted on MIDI channel 1.
I've never used a DX7 so I'm unable to tell you if the 'MIDI channel' on the DX7 relates to it's receive channel.

If you are using a computer it might be possible to remap the recieve channel to 10.

That's right the DX7 only transmits on ch1. You can, however asign that drum set to a patch, and set the recieve channel on the Roland to ch1. Clumsy, but workable!

Hey, thanks!

I had to do select a performance, change the channel of part 1 to channel 2 (to it wouldn't come through the DX7's transmit) then change the channel of part 10 (the rhythm part of the performance) to channel 1 and now I have drums.

Thanks for the guidance.
