Hate to say this, but Roland released the JV-1000 about 10 years ago - it was one of the predecessors to the '1080; just see some of the previous postings to this forum!

However, I do hope they release a new synth soon as I'm looking to buy one but the XP80's poor timing is putting me off at present (though they are dirt cheap at the moment!), I just hope they give it a better name than the rest of their stuff!

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Roland Synths to just about anything else, but IMHO 'XP80' doesn't quite have the same ring to it as 'Trinity' or 'Supernova'!

Where did this scoop about a Roland XP-90 coming out come from? What features will it have? I'm curious what it's gonna be like.

I just hope this is true. I remember this same time last year where someone (I believe it was Gorazd) told of a new sampler that would compete directly with the Akai S-5000 & S-6000. It sounded very cool, and I was very anxious for it's introduction at the NAMM show. But alas, it never happened. This leads me to not believe any rumors I hear about new gear coming out shortly. I won't believe anything until my music dealer tells me what the Roland rep has in store for the next year.

I do hope that Roland comes out with a new synth soon, one that will have the features that Gorazd has mentioned. My question is, how could Gorazd know anything about a new synth unless he works at Roland? And if he does, what happened to the sampler that was supposed to be released last year?

I am sorry I don't believe this, but I am tired of people getting my hopes up on something that will never happen. I totally doubt the credibility of the original post. I just hope I am wrong.

Dano, i tend to agree with you 'bout 'consider the source ' on preannouncing a new Roland. When Gorazd
stated the rack version would be named
Jv1000 that said it all (Roland would not
re-use a 10 year old model name).
Roland reps are very tight lipped about
tipping anybody what their company is doing
during Winter NAMM. From a manufacturer/sales
point of view, why would they say anything
to mess up sales of their existing XP line ?
I remember the "hot new sampler" and "hot new WS with Sampler " rumor buzz the last 2 years. Again from "good sources " , right.
Anyway, we will all find out when Roland
wants us to find out.
Right now, the Triton is selling very well and is leading the pack/horse race.
I have friends who are selling or have
sold their Xp80's. They are getting Triton
plus a 1080 or 2080. Xp80's are starting
to appear on eBay. I don't know if this is related but there are always 3-5 Xp50's
on eBay.
I like Korg and Roland equally. I would
be a little suprised if they(Roland) were passive on the Workstation platform for Winter NAMM.
Price cuts on the Xp30/60 and 2080 would be cool.
This is a good time to be on the fence, IMHO.

Here in the UK Roland slashed most their prices a few weeks ago (as far as I know only the XP30 and JV1010 remain the same), but the JV1080 now costs about £599, and the XP80 can be bought for £875 (Korg Triton costs £1799 here)

Thanks Pstares. Roland dropped their US prices on those 2 in July. I do not know
the US $/English pound rate.
A new Xp-80 can be bought in US for $1729, give or take $30. List price is amost meaningless.
Question is did Roland drop prices in UK first or US first ?
Still hoping that Winter NAMM in US during Feb will inform us of price decreases.

Exchange rate is around 1.6 US $ to 1 UK Pound, meaning the XP80 is around $1400 and the '1080 is around $960 - makes a change for something to be cheaper over here for once!!!

The XP30 has not been reduced yet - list price is £999 ($1600) though I got a quote of £799 ($1280) from one shop.

thats good info. And this will make you wonder about Roland and street pricing.
The US street price on the Xp30 is $949 give or take $50. Pretty wierd that the Xp80 is more expensive in US and the Xp30 is more expensive in UK.
FYI, I decided not to go after the Xp30 due to its small display (not planning to use with pc sequencer) and preference to 76 keys.
And that I am likely to buy a used Xp80 for
around $1000. I already have the vintage synth expansion and will buy the Techno
sometime later.

I own 2 JV1080's and am thinking of selling one to get a JV2080. However, is it true that the 2080 has more midi timing problems than the 1080? I have read this on a number of posts.

Also all this crap of speculating what Roland, Korg, Yamaha etc will bring out next at the NAMM/MUSIKMESSE shows etc- come on guys and gals- lets be content with what we presently own and not get too carried away with TECHNOLUST!

By the way Gorazd, I think that new Roland synthe is called an XP81.5. It has a 32 track sequencer which was designed with the help of one of the big software companies. It's big limitation is that due to the massive amount of DSP power used on the 'SUPER COSM' synthesis and redesigned JV synthesis it will only have up to 16.25 notes of polyphony. However, that should be ample for for a few tracks of music. Just don't play too many big chords also! And of course- you can always hook up external sound modules for more polyphony!!!!!!! Cheers.
