I know a lot of us are/were using AVG, Spybot and Adaware. Adaware has not been supported since March, 2009. Sounds like Malwarebytes is the one most are using.

Scott, I don't get it..My LavaSoft Ad-aware is still supported..I just updated my 8.1.2 version 5 minutes ago...The last update version shows Nov 19, 2009..

My Avg is also fully functional..

It's lience has changed that's all. It's called trialware now. YOu can get the full version for free for 1 year or you can still download the freeware version.

Either way, the downlaod still comes from cnet.com and is supported and updated as it has always been.

My Adaware will not load. It just freezes. I can't update it. That also freezes. Last night I went to their site and it said it was not supported since March, 2009. I didn't dream this

Scott, I just downloaded and installed the latest free version of Adaware...no problem, and it updated itself upon install.

It appears that my computer has been comprimized. I somehow got a rogue program in my computer from Antivirus System Pro. It took over my computer to the point that no programs at all would open.

Thought I had it under control, but I guess something in there doesn't like Ad-aware because, now that I think of it, I clicked on their website from the taskbar icon. I apparently got a rogue website, remembering it was a blog, that showed other new programs and it said that Ad-aware was no longer supported since March 2009. I'll be glad when I get my computer back in shape. It's improved a lot, but my main browser page takes forever to load. After that things have been reasonable, I thought. I am concerned that my AVG has been compromised by the way it's been acting.

A while ago I had SysFader and thought that was handled but I see it flash for a second in my Task Mangager. Now what? Scratch the hard drive?? Only problem is this computer was given to me and I don't have the Windows Disk or the Microsoft Office programs. It sounds like I'm on hold til I figure out the best steps to take.

If you remember when you first started having the trouble, you might consider doing a system restore to a date prior to that date.

Losing MS Office stinks, but "Open Office" a free bundle of software that mimics Office is very popular.
