Last night, small theater, seats 400. We were in the back row but that was only about 70' from stage. Still, I would have rather been closer. I think I could have understood his words better. My hearing is not primo but the vocal was not totally clear for me. The guitars and his keyboard sounded AMAZING.
He had 16 acoustics on stage that he chose from! At least 2/3 were Gibsons. Obviously, he likes Gibsons.
He also played a keyboard (piano only). I noted that the brand name was blacked out, I have no idea what it was but it sure sounded awesome. His sound crew did a great job. (Except I couldn't understand his words but maybe that's my ears.) He's plenty good on both guitar and keyboard. I'm guessing that he is age 61 or 62. Still sounds exactly like he used to.
I commented to my brother... "He's the only guy I've ever seen play nothing but mid/slow tempo numbers and get away with it." The only time he played uptempo was at the end, he played Take It Easy and Running On Empty and maybe another couple of songs. He played 2:15 with a 30 minute intermission. I totally enjoyed the show but I can say that many of the songs sounded "alike." Of course, that is magnified with him just being one guy with a guitar or a keyboard.
I noted that the uptempo songs, even playing solo, his arrangements were terrific. It's hard for one guy to make a rock song sound good with no effects... just a guitar or a piano.
I wonder how much he earns for something like that. Even solo, he had several in his road crew. Tix were $100 for most seats, some $125-$200. The place was sold out and people certainly knew his songs.
