Need some help in comparing the Roland Juno DI compared to the Yamaha MM6. Any ideas?, Suggestions?
I am using only midi-files and looking for a small light keyboard. Please help

Hi firehead.

This is very simply, don't go anywhere near the Yamaha and buy the Roland.

The Yamaha only has 32 note Polyphony where the Roland has 128. For midi file playback you will exceed the limitations of the Yamaha and so the sounds will start to cut off.

So if you want your midi files to play back without any problems, go with the Roland. It has more than enough Polyphony and sound wise it's excellent value for money.

The Roland JunoDi also will play mp3s and wavefiles from a connected USB thumb drive and if you like to sing it also has a mic input with reverb and echo.
And I agree it sounds better and as mentioned has a lot more polyphony which is very important.

I totally agree...the MM6 is outclassed by the Roland Juno, especially when it comes to playing midi files.

Have you already listened to the Korg Tr series or Korg X50? Some people will say not state of the art. But who cares the Korgs sound awesome and are great for midifiles.

Hey everyone,
Firehead called my store today and we discussed his getting a Yamaha PSRS550B for his purposes. He already owns a Yamaha 900 but wants something lighter and as easy to use and it must have a USB thumb drive not an SD card slot or floppy drive.
I suggested the Yamaha because it weighs about 16lbs, uses USB thumb drive, is 64 voice polyphony and has easy dedicated buttons to turn on and off midi song tracks. He liked my idea! He owns a JunoDi and isn't happy with it. The things that bother him is the display and that you can only see two selections at a time and that there is no easy way to manipulate the midi files in real time. And once the song starts playing and you want to select a different sound to play along with it, it comes out of the sound template and everything starts to play as a single sound which is not smart.
So, I hope he can sell his JunoDi and buy a PSRS550-B from me!
