I have a friend who told me that he hated the XP50 (which I used to own) in comparison to the XP60 (which I now have) which he loved because he said it has a warmer, more natural sound. This guy doesn't have a solid background in ear training, but am I the only guy who doesn't really hear a major difference?

Also, he said that he loved the JV2080 as opposed to the JV1080 and 1010. He also said he thinks the XP30 and 50 suck in sound when compared to the XP60 and 80. Is it me?, or do you think this guy WARMED UP to the larger graphic display.

Lastly, if anything, I would say maybe the 1080 and XP50 are better. Their D/A convertors are 16 bit. This hides the grunge/decay effect. Also the JV1080 has that PCM slot.

I tried the XP30 along side the XP80 in a shop and the '80 definitely sounded better than the 30. The sound seemed slightly clearer with better depth & stereo definition when compared to the same patch on the '30. I wonder if the 30 has cheaper D/A convertors due to the lower cost?

Does the 60 incorporate the 2080 module sounds? or is that just the 30? Did he change amping systems in between times? All I know is that my board sounds as good as it's going to get on most sounds, although I have to admit that acoustic, and to a certain extent guitars are lacking. (OT) anyone figured out how to get a decent strumming guitar line outta a synth?

I think he warmed up to the bigger range of sounds. Another thought, how did the ambience of his listening arena change? Rooms have a big effect on sound charachteristics.

Can't comment. I guess it's easier to get lost with more sounds, and I'll take it from you on the spec. As far as I'm concerned my '50 does what I want it to, and kicks ass. Shame 'bout the five octaves though on the keyboard...
