Hello,

I would like to buy a second keyboard or synthesizer but I would like to hear from you what would be the best sollution for me.
I have actually a kn6500 and I would like to add a second instrument.
The only thing I am interested in are good and plenty off sounds.
I would put my kn6500 on the bottom off a stand and the second instrument on top.
I would play with the sequenzer from the kn6500 and sometimes play with the voices from the other intrument.
I don't want a soundmodule....this is to difficult to combine with the sequenzer from the kn6500.

So the main thing are good and many sounds...maybe an instrument that is expandable.

I hope you will give some ideas.

Thanks a lot,
Alain

I think you will find that a secound instrument will be just as difficult to combine with the sequencer of your Kn because basically it is the same procedure for setting up MIDI messages. The type of synth you require entirely depends on what your looking for. Basically, just about whatever you go for ...the sounds will prob be much better than the Kn. If you want something that is litterally going to last you forever on the sound front, get an XP30. This synth has more sounds than you are ever likely to need and the synth engine is an industry standard. it has the same sounds as the xp60/80 but with the orchestral, session and techno boards built in and room for expansion. All of these boards are amazing compared to the Kn and that is the preset sounds before you even go into making your own sounds or downloading patches from the net. Alternatively, if funds are low and you use alot of keyboard sounds go for a secound hand Korg N364 or soomething like that...They don't make them anymore but I'm sure you could pick one up for no more than £150 (cheaper than an expansion board for any decent synth!!) and although the expansion capabilititesare limited there are loads of good sounds for your money. Only go for a synth with a keyboard unless you really really think you need it....otherwise you will kick yourself!!!

I agree with D.O on the Xp-30 only if you want a keyboard that are expandable in sounds. if you don't care about that. I recommend the Triton LE.

The XP30 is a fantastic bet for heaps of great sounds and good expansion.

A Triton LE is also excellent but it has the Korg sound as opposed to the Roland sound. It all depends what sound you like better- I like both!!!!! .

Another couple of options are Alesis QS series. I owned an S4plus module and really liked the sounds of it. The Yamaha S30 is also a good bet and also check out a 2nd hand EX5. These are great synths. For something new the Motif is great!

It all depends on how much money you have and what 'sound' you like. No manufacturer makes 'bad' sounding synths anymore!!!! ]

Emu systems are about to release some new keyboards well worth checking out if you like a more 'American' sound. They are based on the synth engine of the Proteus 2000.

So there are heaps of options for good synth sounds .
